Acquire

Confidential domain acquisition.

The name you want is already owned? That is where we start. DomainBooth approaches the owner anonymously, finds out whether the name is for sale, negotiates the best possible price and manages every step to transfer.

What we do

Discretion, experience and access.

The best names are almost always already owned. Reaching the owner, and being taken seriously, is most of the work.

  1. Identify and approach domain owners discreetly.

Every approach is made on your behalf, without revealing who is buying.

  2. Negotiate on behalf of the buyer.

We lead the negotiation to secure the best possible price.

  3. Protect the buyer's identity where appropriate.

Large companies pay a premium when an owner knows who is asking. We keep that knowledge out of the negotiation.

  4. Structure and facilitate secure transactions.

Funds are held by a licensed escrow service such as Escrow.com until the domain is in your account.

  5. Handle high-value and complex domain acquisitions.

From cross-border payments to the technical transfer, we see the deal through.

What sets the price

Six things that decide what a name will cost.

No two names are priced alike, but the same factors come up in every negotiation. Knowing them helps you set a realistic budget.

  1. Length

Shorter is scarcer. Two- and three-character .COMs are finite, and almost every one is owned.

  2. Meaning

A real word, especially one that names a category, is worth far more than an invented one.

  3. Extension

.COM remains the benchmark. .AI has become the premium choice for artificial-intelligence companies.

  4. Current use

A name that a business actively uses is harder, and costlier, to acquire than one that sits unused.

  5. Comparable sales

Published sales of similar names anchor both sides of the negotiation.

  6. Who is asking

An owner who knows a large company is buying raises the price. Anonymity protects your budget.

How it works

Five steps, one point of contact.

  1. Brief

Tell us the name you want and your budget, in confidence.

  2. Approach

We contact the owner anonymously and establish whether the name is available.

  3. Negotiate

We negotiate the price and terms, and keep you informed at every turn.

  4. Escrow

Payment is held by a licensed escrow service until the transfer completes.

  5. Transfer

We handle the technical transfer into your registrar account.

Acquisitions

Questions

Before you begin.

Will the owner know who is buying?

Not unless you want them to. We approach owners on your behalf and keep your identity out of the negotiation where appropriate.

How is DomainBooth paid?

A success-based fee, due only when the acquisition completes. If the owner will not sell, you owe nothing.

How is the payment handled?

Through a licensed escrow service such as Escrow.com. Your money is released to the seller only once the domain is in your account.

What if the owner won't sell?

We tell you plainly, and can suggest strong alternatives, including names from our own portfolio.

Can you tell me what a name is worth before I commit?

Yes. We look at the name, comparable sales and the owner's position, and give you a realistic range before we make any approach.

How long does an acquisition take?

It depends on the owner. Some deals close within days; others take months of patient negotiation. We keep you informed at every turn.

Do you acquire .AI and other extensions?

Yes. We approach owners of .AI, .IO and other extensions in exactly the same way as for .COM.
